In this little town, South Carolina, there’s an inconceivable incident that’s so close to being a real-life version of Jumanji. It was reported to me that 43 young rhesus macaques escaped from their enclosure in Yemassee and this has caused some concern for the people living there. The condition with the escaped monkeys remains the same, to this day, as of Thursday morning. The Yemassee Police Department has given an announcement to the locals of that place to close and lock the doors of their homes after which the animals should also not be able to get in. What has also been detected is that the girls are 6-7 pounds in weight and they are young and light. The monkey holding laboratory, the cause of the problem, Alpha Genesis, had been using bait in an attempt to catch the monkeys. The incident has even spread as far as Cheraw State Park.
What I find the most interesting is that this is not the first time something like this has happened in this area. In 2016, there were nineteen monkeys, who did not want to be used for testing, they broke into a research institution and left. The same thing happened this time, but fewer monkeys made it out of the facility and only six hours later they were caught once again.
It is worth noting that for the research on non-human primates (the work being done here) the Alpha Genesis facility’s credit is so high that it’s called “a hero” for treating medicine. The facility in question is the largest one in the country and it has 100 acres of land that is dedicated to research and breeding.
Given the fact that the circumstances are still subjected to some changes, the local authorities are doing their utmost to ensure safety for both the people and the escaped monkeys.
